Derrygonnelly Allotment Group
The Allotment Group in Derrygonnelly has been growing vegetables now for one year, with members enjoying a bumper crop and pleasant company. This is a community group set up and operated according to Community Development Principles: inclusion (any age, ability or background), collective action, consultation and participation. The allotment site is opposite the Tir Navar Centre, next to the Silees River and has an uncultivated riverside and woodland wildlife area.
Initially six small plots were prepared for the group by Green Gym volunteers, subsequently extended to ten by demand. With a year’s experience behind them and with the help of non-growing volunteers, the group now plans to increase plot size and restructure plot lay-out.
There will be a meeting for the Allotment Group members in Tir Navar on Monday 4th November at 8pm. If anyone is interested in either taking a plot next Spring or helping with grass strimming and laying out new plots this autumn, please go along or contact the DDCP via email firstname.lastname@example.org for more details.
