Couch Potato Physical Activity Programme

Fermanagh District Council, in partnership with the Public Health Agency (PHA), has organised a five week physical activity programme encouraging people to make positive changes by getting active.

The programme is targeted at those who are not currently engaging in physical activity by encouraging participants to engage in two 30 minute physical activity sessions per week.

The programme will start week beginning 23 February and will run until week beginning 23 March 2015. At the end of the programme, participants will also complete the Enniskillen Parkrun on Saturday 28 March 2015.

Over the course of the five week programme, participants will complete a walk, led by qualified instructors. Following each walk, participants will be issued with a pass for a free gym session which can be used at any of the Council’s leisure centres during that week.

Walks will be held in Enniskillen, Irvinestown and Lisnaskea with the walks departing at 7.30pm from the Fermanagh Lakeland Forum in Enniskillen, the Bawnacre Centre in Irvinestown and the Castle Park Leisure Centre in Lisnaskea.

Speaking about the forthcoming programme, Chairman of Fermanagh District Council, Councillor Bert Johnston, said;
“Fermanagh District Council is delighted to launch the ‘Couch Potato’ programme in partnership with the PHA for the second consecutive year. Taking the first steps to getting active is often the hardest. The ‘Couch Potato’ programme aims to provide a welcoming and encouraging environment with qualified instructors to give advice and guidance to get people active.”

Collete Brolly, the Public Health Agency’s lead on Physical Activity, said;
“It can be easy to slouch down in front of the TV after a day at work or when the kids have gone to bed, but getting active instead can really benefit your health. It can be difficult to get motivated but taking your first steps with a group can be a good way to get started and it’s also a great way to make friends who can keep you motivated.”

Please note places are limited on each walk and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
