Read our Feasibility Report here
On behalf of Derrygonnelly and District Community Partnership I wish to present our feasibility report which has now been completed and launched at our AGM on Monday 13th April. This report brings together an extensive consultation process where we sought the views of the community, voluntary and statutory organisations. This comprehensive document will now add both direction and momentum to the future development of our village and surrounding area.
Five options have been identified in the report of with three options identified as short term and two in the longer term. The short term options were identified in terms of ease of delivery and lower over all costs whilst the longer term options will require significant investment. The options are as follows:-
1. Environmental improvements to the area (public seating, enhanced entrance features, landscaping)
2. Establishing a community hub / cafe,
3. Improved child care and elderly facilities (community play park)
4. Technology and business support (improved broadband, wifi, mobile coverage)
5. Tourism opportunities ( River walkways, fishing stands, information panels, brown signage)
The cost to implement these options has been estimated to be in the region of £1.5M. Clearly, in the current economic climate, this is a significant amount of money however the partnership believes that this report has given us a solid foundation upon which we can make sound proposals to government departments and funders which will help provide opportunities in terms of employment and the creation of small businesses within our community.
I would therefore ask that you take time to read this report and continue to support the partnership in creating the opportunities that have been identified in this report. I would also ask that you continue to attend partnership meetings in shaping the future direction of our community.
I would also like to thank everyone who contributed in any way to this consultation document. I would also like to thank Mrs Celine McCartan and Ms Jenny Sproule from South West College who produced this report and finally to Fermanagh District Council who provided grant funding which made this all possible.
