Sillees Defibrillator Support Group’s Big Hearty Breakfast and Cake Sale

The Sillees Defibrillator Support Group is hosting a ‘Big Hearty Breakfast’ and ‘Cake Sale’ in
big hearty breakfastDerrygonnelly Community Centre on Saturday 30th January 9.30am-12noon.

A full breakfast with all the trimmings will be served and for those who have started the New Year more healthily there will be a healthy option. There will be food suitable for the whole family.

This is the group’s only fundraiser this year so please make the effort to support this life-saving cause in our community.

They have also set up a
Facebook page and ask you to ‘like’ and share the page so that they can keep the community advised of what is going on in the support group. Click here for their Facebook page.

 


 

O’Brien School of Drama, Mondays 3.15pm/4.15pm, Community Centre

The O’BrienSschool is in its 18th year and successes have been many. Ssob drama.jpgiobhan O’Brien is director of the well-known Borderline Players for the last 16 years and more recently of Gillaroo Players Garrison who are embarking on their third successful year.

Children may compete in Feis or take board-certified exams which in later years they can add to their CVs. The school has lifted many trophies (including “best in Feis or Festival”) in Belfast, Enniskillen, Derry, Dundalk, Pettigo, Irvinestown, and Dublin.

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council: Funding Opportunities

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is now open for applications for grant assistance for projects and Fermanagh-and-Omagh-council-logo-460x167activities that will take place in the 2016/17 financial year.

Applications are invited from voluntary clubs, societies, organisations and individuals based in the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council area, for grant aid under the following themes:

  • Arts, Culture & Heritage
  • Community Services (General Grant Aid)
  • Community Services (Revenue Grant Aid)
  • Community Services (Project Development)
  • Festivals & Events (Small)
  • Festivals & Events (Large)
  • Good Relations
  • Sports Development & Recreation (Small)
  • Sports Events
  • Seeding Grants
  • Arts, Culture and Heritage Bursaries
  • Sports Bursaries

The call for applications is open from Wednesday 20 January until Wednesday 10 February 2016 at 5:00pm, after which applications will not be considered.

To assist voluntary clubs and societies and community groups with applications for grant aid, information sessions will be held on th
e following dates and locations:

  • Monday 25 January, 7.30pm –9pm – Strule Arts Centre, Omagh
  • Tuesday 26 January, 1pm – 3pm – Intec Centre, Enniskillen
  • Tuesday 26 January, 7.30pm –9pm – Bawnacre Centre, Irvinestown
  • Wednesday 27 January, 7.30pm – 9pm – Castlepark Centre, Lisnaskea
  • Thursday 28 January, 1pm – 3pm – Strule Arts Centre, Omagh

It is essential that groups planning events over the summer months, (including summer schemes), submit an application in this Round.  Applications for funding for a project or event which has already taken place will not be accepted.  Applications must be received before your event takes place.  Officers are available to discuss your project ideas and provide guidance on how tocomplete the application.  You are encouraged to attend an information session or contact the Council to speak to an Officer.

A second call for grant applications will open in late summer/early autumn. However, projects which have already taken place will not be considered.

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has allocated grants in excess of £420,000 so far this financial year, with a final round of applications, for funding to be spent before 31 March 2015, to be allocated in the coming weeks.

Up to 600 projects received grant aid, with amounts ranging from £100 to £5,000. Some groups or organisations submitted several applications for a range of projects, all of which support thriving and sustainable local communities.

Satellite broadband project aimed at 15,000 properties in Fermanagh and Antrim

Fermanagh and Antrim areas have been chosen for a new project which offers householders subsidised satellite broadband installations and packages.
satellite broadbandNow Fermanagh and South Tyrone MP, Tom Elliott, has organised an information event in the Donn Carragh Hotel, Lisnaskea next Monday, January 25 in conjunction with Avonline who will be demonstrating satellite broadband.

He said poor broadband speeds can often be an issue for people and businesses in rural areas. Satellite broadband offers a cost effective alternative to farmers, agricultural businesses and people living in rural locations to improve their broadband speeds up to 22 mbps.

Over 15,000 properties are eligible for the subsidised superfast broadband scheme, which is powered by Avanti Communications and delivered across both counties by Service Providers Avonline Broadband and Europasat.

Tom Elliott said: “I would encourage all those who are eligible to sign up before the deadline at the end of March 2016 to benefit fully from the scheme.

The event takes place between 10.30am and 3.00pm and those attending are encouraged to bring their own laptop, Tablet, Ipad or other device to try the system for themselves.


Paddlesport programme for young people with a disability

A 6-week paddlesport programme for young people with a disability, aged 11-18 years old, paddlesportstarts on Monday 18 January 2016 at Fermanagh Lakeland Forum, Enniskillen. The paddlesport coaching sessions start at 9.30pm and last for one hour.

The programme will provide expert coaching on a range of paddle sports such as canoeing and stand up paddle boarding. All necessary equipment will be provided.

Participation on the programme is free of charge, however places are limited and allocated on a first come first served basis. Participants on the programme must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or carer for the duration of the session.

Derrygonnelly & District Community Partnership Monthly Meeting, Monday 8th February, Community Centre

Derrygonnelly & District Community Partnership hold a meeting every second Monday of the month at 8pm in the various venues in Derrygonnelly. Here we meet up to discuss how we would like our area to develop, funding opportunities, current issues and upcoming projects and events.

We would like to extend a warm welcome to everyone in our community to come along to the meetings and have a say in the future of our village.
