Broadband for rural areas arrived in Derrygonnelly & surrounding areas
Some of you may recall a voucher scheme to obtain grant access for business broadband coverage in rural areas.  Unfortunately, this was not delivered and the scheme has now been closed.
satellite broadband
A representative from DDCP attended a meeting in which Avonline Broadband are offering satellite broadband for rural areas where there is little or poor broadband service availability. With this particular service you will have a satellite dish fitted to your house, and it is a service that is specific to you (similar to a Sky dish).  There are various packages available which can be found in the enclosed documents – however if your service is below 2Mbps the installation fee of £100 is waived.
In the documentation provided, Avonline use two satellite services, Avanti and Tooway, and you can choose the type of package that suits you best.  If you want to check whether or not you can avail of the free installation, input your details on to the following website:-
DDCP have been lobbying hard to have a better broadband service in rural areas for both domestic and commercial customers. We had the opportunity to see the equipment and use the service and we were quite impressed.
If anyone is keen to avail of the service, there are contact numbers to speak to Avonline. We have also been told that it will take 10 days to have the service up and running. If someone does decide to take up this service would you please let us know as we would be keen to see what your service and experience is with the new service.
